European Regional Development Fund
The long-term objective of the project is to improve the attractiveness of the border regions by establishing experience centres Slovakian-Hungarian border regions. The project aims -to acquaint visitors with the attractions, traditions of the region and its rich culture; -to diversify the available touristic products of the Slovakian-Hungarian border regions; - to focus on rural tourist destinations that have difficulty in competing with more popular areas; -to improve cross-border cooperation among SMEs, the public sector, NGOs and citizens; -to better integrate culture and cultural heritage into the development of tourism. It is meant to be a pilot project (involving the area of Tiszabábolna from HU and Krásnohorská Dlhá Lúka from SK) of decreasing seasonality, attracting tourist all year round and increasing guest nights. Through the project activities the partners would like to engage more and more tourists to spend more time in the region, and thus local SMEs (e.g. hotels and B&Bs, restaurants) and the economy will get a boost. The project is an easy-to-replicate joint action to better utilise the common natural and cultural heritage in the SK-HU border regions. As main outputs of the proposed project, involved beneficiaries will establish two experience centres.
