The primary objective of the project is to increase the density between border crossing points along the HU-SK border by the development of cross-border infrastructure for eco-tourism between the Hungarian and the Slovakian branch of the EuroVelo 6 cycling route and as a link to the TEN-T network. The Trans-European EuroVelo network is a most important zero-emission network & fully complements the TEN-T network.“EuroVelo incorporates existing & planned national & regional cycleroutes into a single European network. It currently consists of well over 45,000km of bike paths and thousands of kms more are planned–when completed it will total over 70,000km. EuroVelo signposting can now be found in Austria,France,Germany,Hungary,Serbia,Slovakia,Switzerland & the UK”(Source:ECF) The proposed new cycle route & the bridge shall provide a safer & shorter direct connection between Dobrohošť (SK) & Dunakiliti (HU) & would ease sustainable access for Szigetköz & Trnavský kraj regions. Equally the level of accessibility to Dobrohošť from the TEN-T network (Mosonmagyaróvár) also & as a consequence, increases. In addition, through the use of the environmentally friendly GYSEV electrified railway infrastructure, the planned link would ensure faster connection to the train station of Rajka through Dunakiliti, where this new link would improve the accessibility both from Bratislava (SK) & Győr (HU through Hegyeshalom). The new cross-border link would increase the potential for 'multi-modality’, by promoting & facilitating the shift from cars as the predominant mode of transport,to also zero emission modes (including cycling) in the CB commuting traffic.Furthermore, the planned link would offer a multi-modal option to reach the M15 via Rajka node. M15 is the part of the TEN-T core network. The current distance between Dobrohošť & the only accessible D2 node (SK continuation of the M15) for the TEN-T network, could be halved by the new multi-modal option between Dobrohošť & the M15.
