The Heart for the Heart Foundation (Salgótarján) and the IMPÉRIUM, o.z. non-governmental organizations successfully applied for the implementation of the project entitled “Live for Life - Active Aging” within the framework of the Interreg Slovakia-Hungary Cooperation Program. Interreg is an EU flagship program designed to promote territorial cooperation between border regions.
The two NGOs want to respond through cross-border cooperation to the common territorial challenge, which is becoming more and more difficult every year for citizens and care institutions in both regions: the already large number of elderly people in the border regions from which young people have moved and many elderly people live alone, in isolation, in depression.
Our partnership aims to provide with Silver Program a new tool for elderly communities, preparing them not to be passive, vulnerable sufferers of their age but to be active shapers of their quality of life. The project presents a new, innovative approach to aging and care for the elderly: the presentation of techniques and social strategies for healthy aging is part of the method developed by the Heart for Heart Foundation.
The Silver Program consists of three parts: the Silver Academy, the Silver Mentor Program, and the Silver Counselor Program. Silver Academy lecturers introduce the techniques and social strategies of healthy aging, while a specialist in physiotherapy holds special physiotherapy sessions for the elderly. All Silver Academy lectures and physiotherapy sessions are available to the public through the Silver Program YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0JmDyWUZI06slDhwQYsUJw
Following the Silver Academy program component, the first group sessions began in July 2021 under both the Silver Counselor and Silver Mentor Programs. The Silver Mentor Program provides assistance to the most disadvantaged seniors through, among other things, individual case management and group sessions, while preparing participants of the Silver Counselor Program allows the formation of peer support groups for the elderly.
