European Regional Development Fund
One of the main sectors of the euroregional agri-culture is wine production. During the last decade, some winemakers have gained national-wide recognition on both sides of the border, and the number of hobby or professional producers amount to several thousands. The cooperation of the producers started in the period of the renovation of the Mária Valéria bridge and in 2004 they established the first cross-border Wine Riders’ association in Europe. However, both the quality and quantity of wines could be improved. Within the framework of the project three new services supporting the local wine production in the euroregion will be developed through the renovation of and old shop building in Mužla and an old press and cellar in Kesztölc.
(1) Labelling the regional wine samples in a new laboratory in Mužla. The laboratory will be equipped with an analyser identifying 43 different parameters enabling the producers to label and bottle their own wine. The Hungarian winemakers’ samples will be collected in Kesztölcand will be transported once per week to the centre.
(2) Weather forecast system. Since changing weather conditions have definitive influence on the quantity and quality of wine, it is very important to foresee these changes. In order to enable the producers to intervene in due time, 8 weather stations (4 per each side) will be installed and a digital analyser will be put in service in Mužla.
(3) Technology transfer. In the two new premises, regular exhibitions and product demonstrations will be organised involving distributors of new technologies and experts of new procedures. The above services will contribute to increased productivity and better quality of wines improving in parallel the IsterGranum label.
