Despite it is rich in cultural and natural attractions, the geographical area is however less frequented and known by the greater public. This motivated entrepreneurs, experts of tourism and regional development, enthusiastic locals, and „lovers” of Hegyköz and Bodrogköz to develop new touristic services in the region, to improve the existing ones, and to build an online touristic database.
Once again, the border played a connecting role between the people living here: Hungarian and Slovakian communities, artists, local residents and tourism service providers worked together to achieve the primary goal of the project, namely, to contribute to the protection, development, and promotion of the natural and cultural heritage of the region along the border.
Active tourism attracts an increasingly vast part of society. To respond to the trend, a bicycle rental service financed by the project was opened in Pálháza, where e-bikes are also available for rent besides regular bicycles. A web and mobile application-based hiking route planner also helps those who want to set out and explore the area or even take several-day hikes here.
Various works by Hungarian and Slovakian artists installed along these routes also enrich the set of sights to enjoy while touring the area. Some of the many are the installation called “Bicikló” (Cyclehorse) made of recycled bicycles in Pribeník, the artistic decorations of the wine cellar entrances in Malý Horeš or the mushroom sculptures in Füzérradvány, which also serve educational purposes by providing information about the local types of mushrooms.
While it was possible, cooperatively organized festivals and cultural events enhanced the opportunities for discovering Hegyköz and Bodrogköz.

The project website (pagonyprojekt.com) can evoke interest in the adventures offered by the area and online bike renting is also available within a few clicks from here.
Nevertheless, it is best visiting here in person and explore, hike, bike around this wonderful countryside with friends or family, without boundaries on both sides of the border.
