The common territorial challenge in the HU-SK border regions strongly affects the citizens and elderly care institutions of both regions. The already huge number of elderly people increases constantly in the border regions from where the youth have moved away and many of the elderly live in loneliness, isolation and depression.
The project partners aim to transform the obsolete, institution-centered elderly care system by initiating paradigm shift in the field. Project partners want to change the existing perspective on elderly people and give effective tools and knowledge to do so, not just for public and private institutions, but for the elderly community as well.
A new transformed elderly approach (the Active Actor Elderly Care Model - developed by the HU partner) will be introduced to the regions’ elderly care systems as well as the techniques and social strategies for healthy ageing. With this part of the project, partners aim to start a new innovative transborder collaboration among the elderly care institutions and concerned organisations in order to initiate the required paradigm shift.
The method reaches the elderly in 3 areas: Silver Academy: 100 people; Mentor Program (for the most disadvantaged elderly): 32 people; Silver Counselors (Elderly Peer Assistance Group): 16 people. The marginalised group of elderly will be primed in a personalised, innovative way in order to make them capable of altering their lifestyle and self-organising by launching cross-border peer support groups in both regions.
The project partners aim to give a new tool to the elderly community by preparing them not to be passive, vulnerable experiencers of their age but rather actors who actively improve their quality of life.
