The SKHU Ambassadors project represents an innovative approach aimed primarily at improving the quality of life of seniors by supporting their health, physical activity, and socialization. Based on previous research, it has been shown that physical and mental activity and its integration into the lives of seniors have a major impact on their health, quality of life, and the level of social inclusion of seniors on the Hungarian and Slovak borders. Through the project, we plan to improve the level of social infrastructure and services for seniors at the border.
The main outputs achieved within the project include:
- 2 active aging centers were established in Košice and Miškovec, in both regions there is a high interest in the center's services and they are gradually becoming known to seniors, the public and the media.
- In the centers for seniors, they regularly organize various interesting courses for seniors, which are of great interest, in total more than 200 participants have already used the services of the centers for seniors
- Teaching materials created for interest courses for seniors, as part of the feedback, we discussed the interest of seniors in self-study of the created materials
- Kindness bank - an online platform through which seniors and institutions, based on volunteering, can provide help to those who need it most, the kindness bank is published on the project page, where volunteers can apply for it.
- Inter-institutional cooperation - connecting seniors from Hungary and Slovakia through the activities of the Center for Active Aging.
- Organization of volunteer days. During the volunteer days, seniors from Slovakia and Hungary had the opportunity to meet and spend time in various interesting activities. Seniors who participated in cross-border volunteer days expressed high satisfaction with the event. The main benefit of this activity for the seniors was the opportunity to change the environment and meet new people.
- Interinstitutional cooperation - connecting seniors from Hungary and Slovakia through the activities of the Center for Active Aging.
- Ambassadors team - the creation of a team of senior ambassadors on the Hungarian and Slovak sides. Each member will be the ambassador of one activity, which he will then educate in his region.
In addition, the project led to pilot programs and increased institutional cooperation through the creation of joint services. The project and its activities will be offered to the widest possible population of seniors in the age group over 60, with an emphasis on equal access on both sides of the cross-border regions.
