DANUBE BIKE&BOAT is the flagship project for sustainable tourism development in a large area of 4 counties along the borders of the Slovak and Hungarian Republics. It expanded green infrastructure by building 2.2 km of cycle paths and marking 380.2 river kilometres along the Small and Moson Danube. A national cultural monument of the water mill in Jelka with the adjacent open-air museum were renovated and a unique building on the water called Korzo in Zálesie was created and 30 water accesses have also been built.

However, the aim of the project is even higher. This will raise the awareness of residents, tourists, visitors and enthusiasts about the opportunities of tourism in their nearby location through media campaigns, events or photo competitions. Furthermore, the project tries to create a positive relationship of youth towards nature in the new Youth Centre in Šamorin – Čilistov via many camps, creative study tours organized for them, but also with the help of our trained educators. The project even increased the qualifications of water guides, created educational videos or educational manual.
DANUBE BIKE&BOAT also mapped out networks of existing services and, in the form of workshops, sought to network individual stakeholders, whether it provided a development strategy and a marketing strategy for both local and cross-border destination of the Danube Islands. Under the uniform logo, it promotes the destination on social networks, its own website, but also at various tourism fairs.

DANUBE BIKE&BOAT has set the basic and crucial direction of the future development of the Danube Islands destination. The primary aim is to develop more sustainable, responsible and more attractive destination from a visitor experience point of view. Danube Islands will be part of the global network of sustainable and green destinations with conservation and controlled development of natural and cultural heritage. We are able to achieve this goal by extensive offer of eco-tourist services, eco-educational programme, by building eco-educational centres, by development of sustainable and green mobility (linking up bike and boat paths), by restoration of other cultural and historical monuments along the Little and Moson Danube, by preparing sustainable product packages and by raising target groups awareness related to sustainable traveling.
